Free College Basketball Pick for 11/26/08

November 26, 2008

Free College Basketball Pick for Wednesday comes courtesy of Matt Fargo:

This line may initially seem rather high for a neutral court game but in reality, it is about fiver points too low. Purdue is the class of the Big Ten along with Michigan St. and it will likely come down to those two teams who wins the conference. The Boilermakers bring back seven of their top eight scorers from last season’s team that went 25-9 and 15-3 in the Big Ten. It is a down year for the conference but Purdue placed four players on the Preseason All-Big Ten Team including two on the first team.

One of those players is Robbie Hummel who averaged 11.4 ppg and 6.1 rpg and was voted the Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year. And he is only a sophomore. He has no weakness in his game and after four games this year he is averaging 16.2 ppg, 5.8 rpg while shooting 52.8 percent from the floor including 55.6 percent from long range. Oh, and he has not missed a free throw in 17 attempts. He is just one of five returning starters that play with serious abandonment.

While the Boilermakers are a force on the offensive end, the defense is what this team wants to be known for and so far this season, they are living up to that. The competition has been average but Purdue is limiting opponents to 50 ppg on 32.9 percent shooting. Purdue allowed only 62.4 ppg last season which was 42nd in the nation. Boston College put up some big offensive numbers in its first three games at home but its first road game resulted in only 50 points on 33.3 percent shooting in a three-point loss to St. Louis.

Tyrese Rice had only six points in that game after coming off games of 16 and 28 points. This last game proved that if you stop him, you stop the Eagles. The next top five scorers are all either freshmen or sophomores and while the numbers have been good, they will be overmatched here. Boston College shot just 57.9 percent from the free throw line against St. Louis and that is a problem as Purdue is hitting 77.2 percent from the stripe on the season. Look for the Boilermakers to roll the Eagles at MSG.

Play:  3* Purdue Boilermakers

Free NFL Picks Sunday 11/23/08

November 23, 2008

Black Widow NFL Free Pick Sunday:

1* on Denver Broncos -9

Lay the points here with comfort in knowing the Broncos already beat the Raiders by a final of 41-14 in their opening game of the season. There’s no reason the Broncos shouldn’t be able to put a similar beat down on the Raiders at home Sunday. Denver is fighting to win the AFC West, and they are in good position to do so as long as they take care of business at home Sunday. The Raiders have lost 4 straight, losing by 11 or more points in 3 of the 4. Oakland is scoring a mere 14.8 points per game on the road, while Denver puts up 24.6 per game at home. Oakland does not fare well against teams that score a lot of points and put the ball in the air often. The Raiders’ two worst losses have come to the Broncos and the Saints, two teams that throw the ball a ton. This Oakland secondary is terrible, and the Raiders don’t have the kind of offense that can compete in a shootout. Oakland is 1-8 ATS (-7.8 Units) after scoring 17 points or less in 4 straight games over the last 3 seasons. Oakland is 10-30 ATS (-23.0 Units) after scoring 7 points or less in the first half in 2 straight games since 1992. The Broncos simply have too much offense for Oakland to hang close. Take Denver and lay the points.

Free College Football Picks 11/22/08

November 22, 2008

Saturday’s free college football picks:

Info Plays Saturday, November 22nd Free Play:

3* on Michigan +21

Reasons why Michigan covers the spread Saturday:

1.) Everyone is counting them out, and this is their season. It has been a tough year for head coach Rich Rodriquez in his first year, but the Wolverines have one final chance to make their season with a win over their biggest rivals in Ohio State. Michigan will be ready to play Saturday, and Ohio State will be shocked by the effort they get from the Wolverines. Just as Minnesota was stunned when Michigan went into their house and came out with a 29-6 win a couple weeks back.

2.) Michigan will have a few tricks up their sleeves. Rodriquez has saved some plays for the Buckeyes that they won’t be expecting. Michigan knows they cannot beat the Buckeyes by playing conventional, so we guarantee they have something in store. But when they do have to play conventional, Michigan has the running game and the run defense that matches up well with Ohio State. Michigan has rushed for 177, 232, and 181 yards in their last 3 games overall for nearly a 200 RYPG average. The Michigan defense held Minnesota to just 83 rushing yards on 28 attempts and then held Northwestern to just 59 rushing yards on 37 attempts in their last two games. So the Wolverines have proven the can stop the run, and Ohio State relies heavily on their running game. The Buckeyes passed for just 49 yards against Illinois last game. Ohio State cannot get away with exclusively trying to run the ball against Michigan, and they will find that out early.

3.) System Play. Play On - Underdogs of 10.5 to 21 points (MICHIGAN) - after failing to cover the spread in 3 out of their last 4 games against opponent after covering the spread in 2 out of their last 3 games. This is a 50-20 ATS System hitting 71.4% over the last 5 seasons. Ohio State has been blowing teams out, while Michigan has been struggling. But this is a rivalry game where anything can happen, and the numbers show that Michigan can compete with Ohio State courtesy of a solid running game and a stout run defense. Michigan will pull out all the tricks Saturday that they have been saving up for this one game. Bet Michigan on the road.

1 Unit FREE PLAY on Maryland +1.5
The series have been dominated by the home team with the home side winning each of the last 5 meetings. Maryland has been a very strong home team this season with a 6-0 SU and a 4-1-1 ATS mark. Maryland also has some nice momentum on its side following a big upset win over UNC. Maryland is 15-5 ATS as a home underdog of 7 points or less since 1992 while FSU is 4-18 ATS in road games after playing 3 straight conference games since 1992. Look for the Terps to stay unbeaten at home.

Info Plays Friday, November 21st Free Play:

3* on New Jersey Nets +9

Reasons why the Nets cover the spread Friday:

1.) The Nets are 3-1 ATS in road games this season and will not lose by double-digits tonight. New Jersey is in rebuilding mode, but this team still has plenty of talent to be competitive and they’ve showed it. Vince Carter is still a scoring machine, posting 3 straight games of 26 or more points recently. Devin Harris has been steady at point guard, scoring better than 20 PPG and finding easy shots for his teammates. Toronto has lost 3 of their last 5 games overall and the trade to get Jermaine O’Neal hasn’t panned out yet.

2.) The Nets are not turning the ball over. Toronto is just 13-25 ATS versus good ball handling teams - committing <=14 turnovers/game over the last 2 seasons. The Nets are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a SU loss of more than 10 points. The Raptors are 6-21 ATS in their last 27 games playing on 1 days rest. The Nets are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a double-digit home loss. New Jersey bounces back tonight after one of their poorest performances of the season against Cleveland last time out.

3.) System Play. We’ll Play On - Road teams (NEW JERSEY) - off a home loss, on Friday nights. This is a 131-84 ATS System hitting 60.9% over the last 5 seasons. Also adding to this trend is the fact that Toronto is just 1-11 ATS in their last 12 Friday games. The Raptors have been terrible on Friday’s for whatever reason, and they Nets will take advantage of it tonight. Bet New Jersey on the road.

Free NBA Picks 11/19/2008

November 19, 2008

Our first free play of the day comes in NBA action from Larry Cook’s Info Plays.  Larry delivered a 5-0 SWEEP last night and continues to ride his hottest streak of the year.  Tonight’s free pick comes on the Philly/Minnesota game, here’s the rub:

Info Plays Wednesday, November 19th Free Play:

3* on Minnesota Timberwolves +3.5

Reasons why Minnesota covers the spread Wednesday:

1.) The Timberwolves’ 1-8 record does not show how well they have been playing. Minnesota has been losing by very small margins, and they are ready to break through and win this home game against the 76ers tonight. The Timberwolves have lost 6 of their last 7 games by 6 points or less. Two of those losses came in overtime. So Minnesota has been very competitive, but they just haven’t been able to finish the deal. This team has to be sick and tired of these close losses, and we feel they will respond with a win tonight.

2.) Letdown spot for the 76ers. Philadelphia has won 3 straight games and now they will be a big overconfident heading into this game with the 1-8 Timberwolves. There is no doubt they will letdown tonight. The home team has won 5 of the last 7 meetings in this series. The Timberwolves have won 4 of their last 5 home games when facing Philly.

3.) System Play. We’ll Play On - Any team (MINNESOTA) - after 6 or more consecutive losses, first half of the season. This is a 61-31 ATS System hitting 66.3% over the last 5 seasons. After a team goes on a long losing streak, the odds makers are forced to adjust their lines accordingly. This is when the team that is on the losing streak starts to show unbelievable value. That’s the case for Minnesota tonight, as they should not be a home underdog to the 76ers. Bet Minnesota at home.

The Black Widow is on another amazing run!  He’s hit on 12 of his last 13 plays and goes for even more tonight!  Today’s free pick comes in the NBA as the Atlanta Hawks host the Washington Wizards:

Black Widow NBA Free Pick:

1* on Atlanta Hawks -7.5

The Atlanta Hawks have been up and down all season. They started brilliantly with six straight wins, but they have faltered as of late, losing 4 straight since. But we fully expect Atlanta will get back on the winning track tonight in blowout fashion. Atlanta hosts the Washington Wizards, who have really been killed by injuries this season. Starting C Brendan Haywood and starting G Gilbert Arenas have missed the entire season to this point. The result has been a 1-7 record for the Wizards where Washington is losing by an average of 9.5 points per game. And on the road, the Wizards haven’t even been competitive. Washington is 0-4 on the road this season, losing by an average of 15.3 points per game. It won’t get any easier for Washington tonight considering Atlanta will be playing hungry basketball after dropping four straight heading into this contest. Washington is 23-47 ATS (-28.7 Units) after 2 consecutive division games since 1996. The Hawks are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 home games. Washington is 0-5 ATS in their last 5 vs. Eastern Conference. Take Atlanta and lay the points.

GOOD LUCK TONIGHT!
