Take #128 Pittsburgh Panthers over California Golden Bears (3:30p.m., Saturday, October 12 ESPN) Cal is still in shellshock after blowing a big lead to Miami in the fourth quarter with some very questionable calls going against them. Now they must fly cross country to Pittsburgh to take on a 5-0 Panther squad. Pittsburgh is coming off a double-digit conference road win last time out and I see them winning this game by double digits as well. Lay the points with the home team on Saturday. The Wild are a solid team. They are going to finish with a much higher point total than Columbus will. We do think the Blue Jackets will be a solid bet this season, especially early in the season and especially on the puckline. This team played hard in losses quite a bit last season and was a solid ATS team. The Blue Jackets will be playing for something more than a hot start to the season. They lost their best player, Johnny Gaudreau, who passed away after a car accident in the offseason. We think this will give them extra motivation in these early games. Always the chance that the Wild underestimate their opponent as many teams did last season, allowing Columbus to cover many pucklines. These teams always seem to play close games. Five of six meetings have gone past regulation to OT or SO, and Columbus covered the puckline in five straight visits to Minnesota. Columbus does have some nice young talent and we think they will be able to score some goals on offense here.

The Lynx have hit the over a lot during the postseason, but they hit the under 23 times during the 40 game regular season (2 pushes). The Liberty ranked third in points allowed during the regular season and also hit the under 55% during the regular season. Expect both teams to be tight and we will not worry if the Liberty can cover the spread and instead collect with the over.

Ace Gerrit Cole is on the mound looking for better results compared to his game 1 start. Michael Wacha was even worse and I see him getting hit hard again on Thursday. Neither offensive star is hitting well, but I like the lineup of the Yankees better from top to bottom.
